Windsor is the third episode of Season 1 of Netflix television series The Crown.
Synposis[]
With Elizabeth in a new role, Phillip tries to assert some power. Churchill wants to delay the coronation. King George's disgraced brother arrives.

- This episode features the first of many incidents where the so-called "men in the grey suits", courtiers and government ministers who are charged with knowing and maintaining traditional practices. Their positions come with considerable power, giving them the ability to strongly influence the Queen's decisions and activities. The most influential of these is the Queen's Private Secretary, who is in charge of her schedule and correspondence, and serves as liaison between the Queen and the various Commonwealth governments.
Origins of the Names Windsor and Mountbatten[]
- The House of Windsor was originally named as the House of Saxe Coburg and Gotha when Queen Victoria married Prince Albert. It was renamed as Windsor in 1917 by King George V following strong anti-German sentiment in World War I.
- The House of Battenberg is the Germanic name for Mountbatten, derived from the German translation of Batten mountain (a small town in Hesse). Notable members of the Battenberg (Mountbatten) family were: Princess Alice of Battenberg, Lord Louis Mountbatten, Queen Louise of Sweden and Prince Philip.
