Synopsis[]

Prince Charles is sent to Aberystwyth to learn Welsh from an ardent nationalist in preparation for the ceremony for his investiture as Prince of Wales.

  • In this episode, Prince Charles is invested with the title Prince of Wales. The ceremony takes place at Caernarfon Castle in Wales on July 1, 1969. The title is traditionally conferred upon the heir apparent to the British throne (it was conferred on Charles in July 1958, but the investiture was not held until 1969).

  • Businessman Henry Dimbleby plays his grandfather, BBC broadcaster Richard Dimbleby. Henry is also the son of contemporary BBC broadcaster David Dimbleby.
