Sir Alan Frederick "Tommy" Lascelles, GCB, GCVO, CMG, MC is a recurring character on the Netflix drama The Crown. He is portrayed by Pip Torrens. He was the Private Secretary to both King George VI and to Queen Elizabeth II.
Biography[]
Prior to serving as Private Secretary to the Sovereign, Lascelles was appointed Assistant Private Secretary to Edward, Prince of Wales, in 1920, serving in that role until resigning in 1929, citing differences with the prince. From 1931 to 1935, he was Secretary to the Governor General of Canada, Vere Ponsonby, 9th Earl of Bessborough.
He retired from the position of Private Secretary in 1953, few months after Elizabeth's coronation. Declining a hereditary peerage, he died in 1981, aged 94 at his grace-and-favour home in Kensington Palace.
