Prince Andrew, (born Andrew Albert Christian Edward) on February 19th 1960 is the second son and third child of Queen Elizabeth II. and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. In The Crown, he is portrayed by Tom Byrne in Season 4 and James Murray in Season 5 and 6.

When he was born he was second in the line of the throne, only behind his his older brother. By the end of Season 4, Prince Andrew is fourth in the line of the throne.

Biography[]

Prince Andrew was born in Buckingham Palace in London. He was the first child to be born during the reign of his mother the Queen since his great-great-grandfather Prince Edward, later on King Edward VII.

As an adolescent, Prince Andrew graduated from Gourdonston, a reputed private school with a tough regimen. His father, Prince Philip, and older brother, Prince Charles, also graduated from the same alma mater.

Prince Andrew joined the Navy and fought in the Falkland war against Argentina in 1982, after convincing his mother to let him join the war.

In 1986 Andrew married Sarah Ferguson and became Duke of York. The couple soon had two daughters: Beatrice and Eugenie.

By the time of 1990 the marriage, just like the marriage between his older brother Charles and Princess Diana, began to fall apart.

As of 2024, he is in 8th in line of succession.

Personality[]

Andrew is shown to be a reckless and egoistical man who thinks he would be a better king than his older brother and is disappointed when the media doesn't care enough about his marriage for his liking.

Regardless of his arrogance, Andrew is the favorite child of the Queen. Despite being her special child, there are signs that Elizabeth can tell there is trouble ahead for Andrew.

  • Despite being divorced from Sarah since 1996, their relationship remained amicable, despite his issues.
  • He also adopted his mother's corgis after her death.
