Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 5th Marquess of Salisbury KG PC DL FRS also known as Lord Salisbury is a British conservative politician who serves in numerous roles under Winston Churchill and his successors, Anthony Eden and Harold Macmillan. In The Crown, he is portrayed by Clive Francis.
He has served in numerous government posts prior to the beginning of the show. By the time of the first series, he serves as Lord Privy Seal from 1951 to 1952, Leader of the House of Lords from 1951 to 1957, Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations in 1952 and Lord President of the Council from December 1952 until 1957.
