King George VI (born Albert Frederick Arthur George) is played by actor Jared Harris. He was the father of Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret and the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 11 December 1936 to 6 February 1952 and the first Head of the Commonwealth, following the London Declaration of 1949.
Life[]
Prince Albert, known as "Bertie", was born on 14 December 1895, the second son of King George V and Queen Mary. He married Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon on 26 April 1923 to which he had two daughters, Elizabeth Alexandra Mary and Margaret Rose. Albert became King and took the regnal name George (in honor of his late father on 11 December 1936 following the abdication his brother, King Edward VII to marry Wallis Simpson.
King George VI died in his sleep of lung cancer on 6 February 1952 at Sandringham House.
