- The scene where Princess Margaret mentioned former Filipina first lady Imelda Marcos and her shoe collection. She also described the first lady as a person who "barges into the room" and showing off her shoe collection (Margaret mispronounced it as "shell" due to Imelda's accent). This is based on Princess Margaret's April 2, 1980 visit to the Philippines where she met the aforementioned first lady five years before then-President Ferdinand Marcos was deposed on February 25, 1986.

- In an interview on The Graham Norton Show, Emma Corrin reveals that in the scene where Diana solo dances in a Buckingham Palace ballroom to Elton John's "Song for Guy" she was actually dancing to Cher's "Believe." The scene had to be re-shot because she was mouthing the words to the 1998 song.
